Брама Європи
“Брама Європи”
Сергій Плохій
My humble review and overall feelings after reading the book.
The book leaves the taste of … hunger. Hungry to read more about certain historical preiods. See them in other books, watch some movies about these times. Added some historical books to my reading wishlist.
Very informative, easy to digest and quite fair depiction of the history of my Motherland. No accusations, just many facts supported by desribing the events that were the cause and consequences. The stress was on trying to show the importance of Ukraine on the world map, how it was used and how it - in the end - affected the state we are in.
The book is better to be called not “The Gates of Europe” - but better “The Treasure of Europe”. Our unique geographical position in combination with fertile land and rich natural resources makes Ukraine the most desired part of any union. Hear me, Europeans.
Our multi-culture is our strength and our weakness. Accepting it and learning how to use it in your favor - I think this is the key to become successful.
Speaking Polish is a certain advantage. Few Polish films already in my list to watch about historical events.
